Shelomi Sanders surprised many when she announced her decision to transfer out of Colorado in April. The guard spent just one season with the Buffaloes, during which time she averaged 1.8 minutes over five games. She previously re-shirted from Jackson State after her father, Deion Sanders, took the head coach job at Boulder.

At the time of her transfer, Shelomi Sanders did not explain the reasons behind her move. She picked Alabama A&M as her new home. However, in an Instagram live session last week, the guard explained:

“I don’t want to say anything too bad. It just wasn’t good energy. It wasn’t good vibes. There wasn’t enough being poured into me as a player and young lady. If I didn’t leave when I did, I promise you I would’ve quit.”

Shelomi Sanders had just the support of her mother, Pilar, in this move as Coach Prime had publicly called her decision "stupid" for transferring without having her roster set in a new team.

Pilar commended her daughter for forging her own path and added that her connection to her father had robbed her of the chance to be properly recruited. She also said:

“Since Shelomi has taken the lead of her own life, there have been many teams that have reached out. ... It's not stupid. What's ignorant are the comments being made about Shelomi. ... Coaches want her, teams want her, and she's happy. She's experiencing what it's like to be a wanted player, something she didn't get to experience before.”

Shelomi Sanders prepares for her new season with the Bulldogs

Since transferring to 'The Hill,' Shelomi Sanders has been training hard for her upcoming sophomore season. She shared multiple pictures and videos of her training session on her Instagram. There is also a glimmer of hope that the guard will see more minutes with Alabama A&M. Newly appointed coach Dawn Thornton spoke of Sanders (via Clarion Ledger):

“Not only does she want to make a name for herself, but we also have the platform and the resources for her to do it. She is well-known for her game behind the arc, and I love big guards that can score the ball.
"She has great athleticism and will make it very hard for teams to zone us. Shelomi's commitment and determination will send her potential through the roof.”
