Shelomi Sanders led the Alabama A&M Bulldogs to victory over the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils on Jan. 2, ending their nine-game road losing streak. The game, held on Thursday at 7 p.m. EST in Huntsville, Alabama, marked the opening SWAC matchup between these teams this season.

Amid the college basketball action, Niya Morant, sister of NBA star Ja Morant, shared an Instagram story expressing her admiration for Shelomi Sanders, daughter of Coach Prime, Deion Sanders. This came after an Instagram page posted highlights from Alabama A&M’s game, featuring images of the team in action.

Niya re-shared the post on her Instgram story with the caption:

Meanwhile, Alabama A&M has shown promise this season, boasting a solid record in conference play. Although the Bulldogs have gone 1-2 at home, they average 63.2 points per game, showcasing a balanced offensive approach, even with a shooting percentage of 37.6% from the field.

In contrast, the Delta Devils have struggled, particularly on the road, with a dismal 0-9 record away from home. Their defense has allowed an average of 82.8 points per game, while their offense scores just 58.1 points per contest. Alabama A&M, with an average of 66.0 points per game, still falls short compared to the points scored by their opponents.

Amid Shelomi Sanders success, Grizzlies shine without Ja Morant

While Niya Morant’s post brought attention to college basketball, her brother, Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant, has been making headlines for his absence from the court.

Sidelined with a shoulder injury, Morant has been ruled out for Memphis’ upcoming game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. His absence is a significant setback for the Grizzlies, given his season averages of 21.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 7.9 assists per game with a 45.2% field-goal percentage.

Despite missing their star player, Memphis has continued to fight hard, highlighted by their recent victory over the Phoenix Suns. Jaren Jackson Jr. has stepped up as a key contributor, averaging 23.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game over the last 14 games without Morant.
