JuJu Watkins celebrates Shohei Ohtani and LA Dodgers’ 8th World Series title

USC star JuJu Watkins showed her enthusiastic support for the Los Angeles Dodgers and two-way star Shohei Otani after they won the World Series championship on Wednesday. The Dodgers took down the Yankees in Game 5 to win the series 4-1. The Dodgers secured their second title in five years and eighth in the franchise's illustrious history.

Juju Watkins celebrated the Dodger's triumph on Instagram, sharing a picture of the team celebrating on the field with the trophy.

Meanwhile, the official Instagram account of the USC women's basketball team also commended the team's success.

"Another championship for 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝙇𝘼𝗖𝗘 𝗧𝗢 𝗕𝗘," the caption read.

They shared pictures from when JuJu visited the Dodgers stadium in June. Watkins posed with Shohei Otani, one of the best players in the league.

The Dodgers surprised Watkins with a City Connect jersey during her visit. She had the honor of throwing the first pitch in the game against the LA Angels.

"This is probably the most nervous I’ve ever been," the USC sophomore said beforehand. "Basketball comes easy, not baseball. I always see it on social media. Never did I think I would be throwing a pitch."

JuJu Watkins, a young phenom for the Trojans who posted 27.1 points and 7.3 rebounds as a freshman last season, is learning from the greats.

In an interview with Boardroom, Watkins stated that she models her game after WNBA legend Candace Parker and USC icon Cheryl Miller.

"Well I grew up always going to the Sparks games and I've always been a big Candace fan," she said. "I admired her versatility and the way she's able to score from all parts of the floor so I try to model that as much as I can."

JuJu Watkins also noted that Cheryl Miller, who won two national championships, was someone she greatly admired.

"She's set the foundation for USC women's basketball and literally every day going to practice and seeing their banners in the gym that's just so much motivation in itself," JuJu said. "My Hope and the hope of the team is just to continue that legacy and bring some more banners."

Watkins is starting her sophomore year with the Trojans being ranked the second-best player in women's college basketball, only behind UConn's Paige Bueckers, according to The Athletic’s top 10 list.
