JuJu Watkins and the USC Trojans dismantled Rutgers and got cheers away from home

New Jersey was buzzing on Sunday night as fans gathered to get a glimpse of USC star guard JuJu Watkins as the Trojans took on their home team, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Fortunately for them, Watkins delivered a performance that lived up to the hype.

The No. 4 Trojans dominated the Scarlet Knights 92-42, marking the second-largest margin of defeat in Rutgers program history.

Watkins was the star of the night, putting up 23 points, 14 rebounds, three 3-pointers, and four assists. She thrilled the crowd with her agility, sharp shooting, and impressive ball-handling, earning loud cheers with every play. Many fans even wore shirts featuring her image, showing her growing popularity.

"It’s amazing," Watkins said about the support. "I’m so thankful for the fans, especially since I’m from the West Coast and don’t get to the East Coast often. Seeing this kind of support is always a blessing."

Trojans coach Lindsay Gottlieb also praised the fans and her team's impressive performance.

"It’s great to bring our team to the East Coast," Gottlieb said. "The media market here is fantastic, and the crowd was incredible. Our team executed the game plan well, especially on defense in the second half, but we’re still improving."

The game had its share of drama, as Rutgers was missing their standout freshman, Kiyomi McMiller, who was benched by coach Coquese Washington. This was Rutgers’ third straight game against a ranked opponent in one week, following losses to No. 8 Maryland and No. 10 Ohio State.

The Scarlet Knights will look to bounce back from their tough week when they travel to Minnesota on Wednesday, while JuJu Watkins and the Trojans take on No. 8 Maryland also on Wednesday.
