Kiyan Anthony, NBA great Carmelo Anthony's son, has enjoyed an incredible summer as he put up impressive performances during the Nike EYBL tournament games. This has further increased his popularity and in July, he was also named New York's top recruit of the 2025 class.
With his rising fame, his mother La La Anthony is ensuring that she equips her son with the right tools he needs to navigate it all. In an interview with People in February, the actress said about her son's popularity:
"It makes me so proud. Since I do know it, I'm able to kind of talk him through it, make sure he understands. And he's so calm and humble and just a really great kid," La La said.
On her advice her advice for Kiyan, she said:
"Don't listen to negative comments. Just do what makes you happy. Just quiet the outside noise. I always tell him, 'Quiet the outside noise. It's not important,' " she added.
Kiyan Anthony's popularity is expected to continue to rise as he embarks on his college journey next year. La La shared that Kiyan is well in control of his social media usage, limiting it to sharing his game highlights.
"He's not addicted to posting or anything like that, but he loves to put up his highlights from games or his workout routines. It's important, especially now that he's starting to visit colleges. You want people to know what you're doing," La La said.
Kiyan revealed his top six schools which included his father's alma mater, Syracuse, along with Rutgers, Auburn, Ohio State, USC, and Florida State. He is expected to announce his decision in November before his senior season begins.
A look at La La and Kiyan's close relationship
La La and Kiyan have a close bond which they often share on social media. The 17-year-old even tattooed his mother's face on his arm with the message:
“Dear Mom, you continuously put me before yourself. You are my why. I thank God for you every day.”
In turn, his mother is always the first to give him shoutouts on social media and always celebrates his basketball milestones and victories. From karaoke sessions to perfectly posed pictures, the mother and son always provide fans with a peek into their incredibly close relationship. Kiyan once said that his mother is his best friend.
"My relationship with my mom? We locked in. That's my ride-or-die. My relationship with her is more than that [mother-son]. She is my best friend. We do everything together," Kiyan Anthony said.
The two recently went on a trip to Japan and some of their posted snaps quickly went viral on social media.
