Kansas coach Bill Self has offered the latest update on the injury of forward KJ Adams. Adams suffered a separated shoulder in the Jayhawks' clash against Iowa State on Jan. 15.
In an interview with ESPN's Pete Thamel, Bill spoke about when the forward could return to the court. On Saturday, Thamel tweeted:
"Kansas coach Bill Self told ESPN a reasonable projection for the return of junior forward KJ Adams from his shoulder injury is the game at Baylor on Feb. 1. Self did caution nothing is certain yet, as Adams recovers from the injury at Iowa State on Jan. 15."
The coach also said that the forward should resume shooting practice in the next few days before making a full return.
KJ Adams' injury and team performance
KJ Adams' injury has been a significant blow to the team. After the injury, he missed the games against Kansas State Wildcats and TCU Horned Frogs. Against Iowa State, he recorded four points, six rebounds and four assists.
Adams has failed to find his rhythm this season. He is averaging 8.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists. The team has felt the impact of his absence, particularly in their recent loss.
After Adams' injury, Bill Self's team suffered a 74-57 defeat against Iowa State. The team failed to win a single half, with Iowa State dominating 40-30 in the first half and 34-27 in the second.
However, his team recovered from the loss and won their next two games against the Wildcats (78-74) and the Horned Frogs (61-74).
The No. 12 Kansas Jayhawks (14-4, 5-2) are fifth in the Big 12 standings. They will face the No. 7 Houston Cougars on Saturday.
