Karter Knox announced on April 9 that he is decomitting from Kentucky Wildcats and reopening his recruitment after coach John Calipari departed to Arkansas. The small forward was set to follow in the footsteps of his brother, Kevin Knox, to Lexington.
The 6-foot-6 forward is ranked No. 13 overall by On3 and is one of the top recruits of the 2024 class. Knox holds offers from Louisville Cardinals, South Florida Bulls, Florida State Seminoles, Auburn Tigers, Arkansas Razorbacks and LSU Tigers.
Which teams is Karter Knox considering?
Before finalizing on Kentucky, Karter Knox's other final choices were the Louisville Cardinals and South Florida Bulls.
In an interview with 247Sports, he explained his reason for choosing the Cardinals and Bulls.
Then-Louisville coach Kenny Payne was his biggest reason for choosing the Cardinals, Knox said:
"They aren't doing too good, but KP is a really good coach. He was with my brother when he was at the Knicks, and he was with my brother when he was at Kentucky. He got Kevin prepared for the draft at the ninth pick. He was with him at the Knicks. He's a really good coach. He believes that I can be a top 10 pick."
However, on Thursday, it was announced that Kenny Payne is joining Calipari in Arkansas as his associate head coach. With Knox fielding an offer from the Razorbacks, it will be interesting to see if he will choose them.
His other choice, the Bulls, was also based on its coach.
"They really got something cooking over there," Payne said. "Coach Amir (Abdur-Rahim) is a really good coach, he was at Kennesaw State last year and got them to March Madness tournament.
"My hometown is in Tampa. ... It's always good to stay close to family. I got a brother on the team, but my parents understand that they want me to go somewhere that I can stay close. But if it's somewhere that prepares me for the league and gets me to the league faster, then they don't mind."
Karter Knox wrapped his senior season with Overtime Elite, averaging 23.2 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists. He was named to the 2024 McDonald's All-American team and was one of the top uncommitted prospects.
While he could continue playing for OTE, the forward is also reportedly considering Arkansas as he trusts coach Calipari, who prepared his brother for the NBA.
