After the Phoenix Suns faced the Indiana Pacers, NBA superstars and other basketball legends took the time to meet the UCLA Bruins. The Lauren Betts-led squad defeated the Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday, 73-62, for their fourth straight Big Ten Conference dub on the road. Their playing area was just around a 50-minute drive to Gainbridge Fieldhouse where the NBA teams played.
This prompted NBA superstars Kevin Durant and Devin Booker to greet the Bruins, who were visiting after their conference dub, and even shared a few conversations and photos with the No. 1-ranked program in the nation.
Unfortunately for Durant, Booker, and the rest of the Suns, they were not able to replicate the same success UCLA had as they fell to Indiana, 126-108, and now hold a 15-18 record in the 2024-2025 NBA season thus far.
Durant still had an efficient night, however, as he posted 25 points on 9-for-14 shooting to go along with seven rebounds, seven assists and a block. Booker, on the other hand, had 20 markers of his own with eight boards and nine dimes.
Aside from them, Indiana-based sportscaster Ann Meyers Drysdale and Pacers assistant coach Jenny Boucek were also in attendance as they snagged a picture with the UCLA team and head coach Cori Close right after.
It was an eventful night for the Bruins, as they have surely been further inspired meeting with renowned figures in the basketball realm. As the team is looking set for one of its best records in program history, the UCLA Bruins are poised for a huge Big Ten Conference run this year.
UCLA Bruins are yet to lose in the 2024-25 season
With the Bruins commanding a 15-0 overall standing in the campaign thus far, the team has reached its best start since the 2019-2020 season. Even with the added intensity and tenacity of Big Ten Conference games, the team has still dominated to the tune of a 4-0 division record.
UCLA is seemingly reaping in any ounce of success they can garner as they have aspirations to win it all this year in March's national tournament. The squad is currently led by third-year center Lauren Betts, who is shaping up to be a NPOY candidate with averages of 19.3 markers, 9.8 caroms, 2.4 assists, 1.1 swipes and 2.2 swats per contest.
Their next matchup will be the 7-7 Purdue Boilermakers on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at the Mackey Arena, still in Indiana.
