The UCLA Bruins demolished the Creighton Bluejays 70-41 on Friday for the team's 12th-straight win of the 2024-2025 season. What's impressive is that the Bruins put up a masterful performance even without star stalwart Lauren Betts, who sat out due to an injury.
With this, spitfire guard Kiki Rice took the reins to lead the team to victory. As one half of a 1-2 punch with Betts, the junior put up a game-high 20 points on 8 for 13 shooting, five rebounds and four assists.
Performing as well as Rice did even without her partner-in-crime on the inside, fans on social media went bonkers seeing how the third-year guard torched the opposition.
"Kiki Rice is going crazy," one fan said.
"Kiki Rice is a f*cking dogg," another exclaimed.
"Kiki Rice sheeshhhhhh," one user expressed.
"Y'all don’t fw Kiki Rice like I fw Kiki Rice," another fan wrote.
More spectators then went on to acknowledge how on fire Rice was from the field, especially with her three-pointers.
"Kiki Rice is unstoppable #ncaawbb," one user posted.
"Kiki Rice out here shooting NBA 3's," a user shared.
"Kiki Rice currently," one fan captioned along with a GIF of a man on fire.
Rice and the rest of the Bruins could not be contained in the fixture, as they pulled away right from the get-go. The standout was the one who opened the scoring for UCLA with a jumper as the opening score at two points apiece was the only ever time that Creighton knotted the game up.
UCLA went on to hold the Bluejays to just four points at the end of the first period with them in the lead by 22 points already, 26-4. From then on, the Bruins never looked back and finished the victory with a sizeable 29-point edge.
As dominant as UCLA has looked this season, there is much chatter on whether this could be the most successful run in program history, especially when Big Ten conference play ensues. Only time will tell how far the team can go in March, and they'll definitely be needing Betts for that.
The Bruins now await the status of their center but Rice is ready to go regardless of whether Betts is available. They will go up against the Nebraska Cornhuskers next on Sunday, Dec. 29, on their home court.
The Kiki Rice-Lauren Betts tandem is one of the best duos this season
With their standout play on the backcourt and in the frontcourt, every team would have a tough task to handle in trying to contain both Rice and Betts. This is a trait that has transcended them to a 12-0 standing in the year so far.
For the season, Rice is averaging 11.5 markers, 2.3 boards, 3.5 dimes and 1.1 steals per game. On the other hand, Betts is posting up 19.8 points, 10.0 caroms, 2.3 assists and 2.2 swats. If both are in play with full strength, it'll be tough to defeat UCLA.
