UCLA is cruising through a 6-0 start to the season and Kiki Rice is helping in any way she can. Following their big win against reigning champions South Carolina, the Bruins swept aside UT Martin by 60 points, 97-37, on Friday with Rice steadily sticking to her role.

Seeing 21 minutes of action, the third-year guard contributed six points, four assists, two rebounds, and a steal. She went 2-for-3 from the field including one three-pointer.

It was a collective team effort for the Bruins, who saw ten different players scoring in the matchup. Starting the game, though, the Skyhawks keep it close—even getting a tight lead early, 10-9. Rice didn't provide much offense in the first quarter, but her stability on defense and running the offensive plays well aided in UCLA's 20-12 lead after 10 minutes of play.

In the second period, the Bruins started to pull away as the spitfire standout became more aggressive. Their lead exploded to as much as 29 points, with Rice getting her first few stats with a rebound and an assist. Both squads eventually closed the first half with UCLA on top, 44-20.

In the third frame, Rice finally scored her point from the charity stripe, giving the Bruins their 50th game point. She then made consecutive baskets, including a three-ball from Janiah Barker's pass and a steal leading into the fastbreak layup, 58-20. The rest of her assists followed suit in the quarter, as UCLA ended the third ahead big, 72-30.

Rice no longer had any notable plays during the fourth as head coach Cori Close gave more chances to their bench to get some runs in. Ultimately, the No. 1-ranked AP team got their sixth win of the year, 97-37.

UCLA is AP ranked No. 1 for the first time

Heading into the UT Martin matchup, UCLA made headlines as they were ranked first in the AP Top 25 Poll for the first time in their program's history on Monday.

The ranking came right after their historic 77-62 win over NCAA defending champions South Carolina Gamecocks, who the Bruins dethroned to take the spot early in the season after the Gamecocks had it for 23 straight polls.

As UCLA builds on its win streak, it can solidify its standing at the top with more first-place AP polls in the coming weeks. But first, the Bruins will look to extend their unbeaten start to the season to seven straight wins when they play Fresno State Bulldogs (5-2) on Saturday.
