In college basketball, LSU coach Kim Mulkey is synonymous with impeccable and sometimes odd fashion. Mulkey has worn it all to the sidelines, from her blingy purple-and-gold jackets to feathers, sequins and even a basketball hoop on her sweater.
For Sunday's tipoff against the Florida Gators, the coach continued with her basketball-themed fashion. She wore a purple sweater with a white border, featuring a basketball and a net. Mulkey finished her look with orange pants.
The SEC Network shared pictures of her on X and wrote:
"This Kim Mulkey fit has gotta be one of her best yet 🔥."
After she went viral for the basketball hoop sweater for a game against Auburn (when the team had a Mulkey lookalike contest) earlier this month, Kim Mulkey spoke about the indirect effect her outrageous fashion had in bringing more people to the PMAC during her chat with 104.5 ESPN’s Watch Live Channel.
When Mulkey took the job in 2021, her team came up with a plan to sell out season tickets, and it involved people who had no interest in basketball.
"I got talked into it, and I kept saying no, and then they hit me up at a weak moment," she said. "They said, 'Coach, you said that your goal was to sell tickets and to take one for the team, and I'm telling you, people who don't care about sports and even understand women's basketball, the fashionistas, they will come just to see what you're wearing.'"
Kim Mulkey's team reasoned that the people who come for her would somehow be drawn into trying to understand the game.
"'You're teaching the game indirectly coaching. Isn't that what you're you want to do before you retire?' And I just got caught in it, and I guess it's taken off," she said.
Kim Mulkey's LSU Tigers extend their undefeated streak
Continuing their undefeated season run, No. 5 LSU won 80-63 at Florida on Sunday. Former Tigers great Shaquille O'Neal was present to watch his daughter, Gators freshman Me’Arah O’Neal.
Mikaylah Williams led LSU with 22 points and eight rebounds. Aneesah Morrow finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds, her 92nd career double-double. She tied former Oregon guard Sabrina Ionescu for the second-most career double-doubles in NCAA women’s history. Former Oklahoma player Courtney Paris leads the list with 128.
Kim Mulkey and the LSU Tigers (20-0, 5-0 SEC) will next prepare for their biggest clash this season on Thursday, when they visit No. 2 South Carolina (18-1, 6-0).
