Kim Mulkey and the LSU Tigers just won their first game of 2025 on Thursday, dismantling the Arkansas Razorbacks, 98-64. Now with an undefeated 16-0 overall record, the team may just be one of the favorites to win it all in March during the NCAA national tournament.

But, even with everything working well for LSU right now, coach Kim Mulkey was vividly emotional during the post-game press conference when she was talking about the New Year's Day incident in New Orleans.

Before the matchup, the Razorbacks observed a moment of silence for the lives that were lost during the tragic event and Kim Mulkey commented on it, saying:

"It's a lot of people's children and families. I cannot even imagine how they feel. ... I thought it was very classy of Arkansas to do that. There were kids from our area, Baton Rouge. I can't keep quit thinking about it, to be honest."
"It's so close to home, it just hits you right smack in the face. You get emotional because I just cannot imagine those families right now and what they're having to deal with. You just pray, that's all you can do, that somehow, some way they can deal with it and continue on with their lives," she added.

At around 3:15 am on the first day of 2025, former US Army veteran Shamsud-Din Jabbar is reported to have rammed through a street in downtown New Orleans with his rented Ford F-150 Lightning. At least 15 people were killed and 30 more were injured in this incident.

Jabbar is reported to have died in a police shootout shortly after the sequence. He crashed his truck into the sidewalk, which had a police vehicle parked to block cars from passing pedestrians.

Kim Mulkey says that the LSU faithful is dedicated to supporting the team anywhere

After the huge triumph over the Razorbacks in their home arena, the LSU Tigers shared a picture of their fans with Kim Mulkey looking on through X with the caption:

"Tiger Nation."

Mulkey then shared that no matter where they go, the program has built a dedicated following wherein they will always feel the LSU spirit.

"It's people everywhere. It's like that everywhere we go, she said. "We have created something that's very good in women's basketball at LSU.
"When we go on the road to see fans that are really not LSU fans, but they're somehow, some way attracted to a player on our team ... It's appreciated and we want to help grow the game," she added. (2:10)

The win against Arkansas was a welcoming sight and they will attempt to do the same on Sunday against the Auburn Tigers.
