It looks like Kaitlyn Chen is already leaving her UConn teammates impressed with her talents. After Paige Bueckers, sophomore guard KK Arnold praised Chen for her highlight reel during the Huskies' 85-52 win over Louisville on Saturday.
Arnold shared the video of Kaitlyn Chen's ankle-breaker move on Cardinals' Tajianna Roberts before passing to Ice Brady for a jumper and wrote:
"Whew."
Here is the video:
Chen transferred to UConn for her senior season after three years at Princeton. She averaged 15.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.9 assists as a junior and is now averaging 7.0 points, 1.9 rebounds and 4.3 assists in eight games with the Huskies.
Chen was brought in to fill the point guard need left by Nika Muhl when she graduated earlier this year. The senior was expected to work in tandem with Paige Bueckers and build on the Huskies' Final Four run last season. Kaitlyn Chen has earned the praises of her teammates as sophomore Ashlynn Shade said to CT Insider:
“She's an amazing leader. She's really stepped in. Like, she's not shying off just because this is her first year with us. She's really stepping into her role, being a dominant leader for us.
"And you can see that on the court, the way she carries herself, the way she executes on offense and defense. It’s a great addition to our team, and I'm so glad she's with us this year.”
Kaitlyn Chen credits her teammates for her easy transition
By her own admission (via CT Insider), the practice and performance at UConn are much different from what Kaitlyn Chen was used to at Princeton. However, the guard has made a quick transition to fit into the Huskies style just a month into the season. She credited this to her teammate and their constant help.
“I think my teammates make it really easy for me,” Chen said. “They're always there for me, and they help me out when I need help, and vice versa. Today felt great. It was honestly just a lot of fun to be able to go out there and play with my teammates instead of playing with the practice guys every single day.”
The UConn Huskies have a heavyweight clash this week against Notre Dame on Thursday. Kaitlyn Chen will once again be required to be at her best so that the Huskies can take home the win.
