USC Trojans players Rayah Marshall and JuJu Watkins told a hilarious story of how they struggle to do news conferences together because they can't stop laughing. In a YouTube video on Tuesday, Marshall, a center in her senior year, recounted a story for Bleacher Report about how the two once got dismissed from a presser.
"Me and Rayah are always laughing. We can't do press conferences," Watkins began (Timestamp: 4:27).
"One time, me and JuJu went to Pac-12 media," Marshall continued, "and this guy comes up to us, and JuJu whispers something in my ear. I'll have to go to the grave with that ... and we laughed so hard we had tears running down our face. The guy was like, 'You guys are done. You're dismissed,' 'cause she don't know how to act."
The players told the story as part of a tour of the Trojans' basketball facility for Bleacher Report.
JuJu Watkins shows talent again over Thanksgiving
Juju Watkins showcased her talent during the Acrisure Holiday Invitational on Saturday, lifting the sixth-ranked Trojans to a decisive 104-65 win over Saint Louis. Bouncing back from a challenging loss to Hannah Hidalgo and then-No. 6 Notre Dame, Watkins reaffirmed her status as a rising star in women's basketball with a standout performance.
Scoring 34 points, grabbing six rebounds and shooting 7 of 9 from the free-throw line, Watkins showcased her versatility. Her contribution was more than pivotal, however, because it marked a significant achievement.
The Trojans guard became the fastest player in the past decade to reach 15 career 30-point games, accomplishing the feat in just 41 appearances. She narrowly surpassed Caitlin Clark's record of 42 games, with Florida State’s Ta’Niya Latson following at 68 games.
Off the court, JuJu Watkins sparked conversation online recently with her comments about the WNBA's growth.
Speaking to Forbes, Watkins was asked about the players responsible for the league's rising popularity. Instead of crediting the likes of Caitlin Clark or Angel Reese, Watkins surprised fans by crediting A'ja Wilson, a two-time WNBA MVP, as her primary inspiration.
"Yeah, I'm a big A'ja Wilson fan," Watkins said. "Just the way she's so dominant on the floor is really inspiring."
It's an interesting take and one that garnered a lot of interest online. For now, it looks like JuJu is happy in her lane and going strong.
