The UCLA Bruins' Lauren Betts is making waves in college basketball with her remarkable performances. In Tuesday's 83-49 victory over Purdue, the junior finished with 17 points and seven rebounds in just 22 minutes and extended UCLA's record to 16-0 (5-0 Big Ten).
Betts' standout play has also captured the attention of professional basketball stars. The Las Vegas Aces' A'ja Wilson took a moment to praise Betts publicly, revealing via Threads that she got to watch the forward play.
ESPNW shared Wilson's post on X with the caption:
"Lauren Betts caught the M'V3's attention the way she's been hoopin' 🔥 A'ja Wilson showed the UCLA star some love after her big game vs. Indiana 👏."
This was immediately re-shared by Betts’ mother, Michelle, as she expressed her pride in her daughter receiving praise from the WNBA's unanimous MVP.
"Wow!!! Well, good morning!," she tweeted.
UCLA’s head coach, Cori Close, has expertly managed the team’s demanding schedule. During the Indiana and Purdue doubleheader, Close utilized her roster by giving her starters some rest. Londynn Jones led the team in minutes, while Betts played efficiently, making every moment count on the court.
Lauren Betts' breakthrough performances earn Big Ten honor
Betts’ exceptional performances last week earned her a spot on the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll. The forward delivered standout performances in three consecutive games and averaged a double-double.
In the Bruins’ win over Nebraska, Lauren Betts tallied 21 points and eight rebounds. Her impact extended to the defensive end, where she played a key role in limiting Nebraska’s scoring opportunities. Against Michigan, she contributed 13 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and four blocks.
The Bruins’ matchup against Indiana on Monday was a standout moment for Betts this season. Leading UCLA to a 73-62 victory, she delivered a game-high 25 points on 12-of-16 shooting, alongside 12 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. Her efforts helped UCLA secure their 15th consecutive win, cementing their position as the No. 1 team in the country.
The Hoosiers trailed by double digits for most of the game, facing a 33-21 deficit at halftime. Indiana’s inability to close the gap was compounded by seven turnovers in a single quarter and a tightly called game by the referees. This game was a historic occasion for Assembly Hall, marking the first time since 1993-94 that the venue hosted the nation’s No. 1 team.
