NBA icon LeBron James expressed his longstanding desire to play for legendary college coach Mike Krzyzewski AKA Coach K.
Fans were left baffled after his social media post on Sunday where he said that he woke up from a dream that he was playing for Krzyzewski.
"Just woke up from having a dream I was playing for Duke for Coach K inside Cameron Indoor Stadium! It was INSANE in there. Told Coach K it was an honor to suit up for him and he said the same thing back to me. He’s such a LEGEND! Then," LeBron wrote.
Blue Devils fans have likely imagined James playing for their team at some point. However, the four-time NBA champion skipped college basketball and joined the NBA straight after high school.
Hoops fans have had mixed reactions to his revelation. Some were quick to call out James for his apparent falsehoods.
"LeBron just be out here lying. 😂," a fan wrote on the Duke's Instagram post.
"I wanna believe he had that dream but lebron be lying for no reason 😂😂🤦🏽♂️," another one accused.
"Bro straight made a lie like it was a dream," one more added.
Some fans straight up denied the possibility of the Lakers star ever suiting for Duke, even calling him not Blue Devil material.
"Duke fan my whole life- he is not Duke material. Nobody wants LeFlop here." a fan commented.
"Thank goodness it was just a dream... Coach k wouldn't take whiny players like that... Nice dream though!" another fan chimed in.
A few had positive responses as well.
"Kobe & LeBron both said they’d have played for Duke. Thats Coach K & the brotherhoods impact!!," one user wrote.
"Please make this the next episode of The Brotherhood Run!," another one joked.
LeBron James played under Coach K for Team USA
Although his dream of playing for Mike Krzyzewski's college team will forever remain a dream, LeBron James had the privilege of playing under the former Duke coach during his tutelage of the United States men's team.
Krzyzewski led Team USA to three consecutive Olympic gold medals and James was a key component in those two championship squads — the 2008 team in Beijing and the 2012 team in London.
James came back for international play this year, where he helped the U.S. national team stay undefeated in Paris and won his third Olympic gold medal.
