Iowa Hawkeyes guard Sydney Affolter received support and well wishes from Caitlin Clark, one of the greatest college basketball athletes ever. The former Hawkeyes player was one of the many who commented on Sydney's latest Instagram post.
Sydney uploaded several pictures of herself donning the Hawkeyes jersey. The post was captioned:
"soon☺️"
She was not alone in declaring the expectations of an eventful season that commences on November 4, 2004. Clark posted:
"LETS GO KID!!!! YOUR YEAR ❤️"
She also received a comment from another former Iowa star – Kate Martin. She wrote:
"Can’t wait to watch you kill it"
It'll be interesting to see whether Affloter delivers on the hopes of her predecessors. The Hawkeyes will be looking to avenge their tough 87-75 NCAA women's basketball championship loss this season.
Sydney Affolter backed by coach Jane Jensen for the 2024-25 CBB season
A new Iowa Hawkeyes squad will step on the court in the 2024-25 college basketball season. There’s no doubt that Jan Jensen will miss the legendary Caitlin Clark, an athlete who felt like a cheat code whenever she set foot on the court.
However, Bluder has found her new star – Sydney Affolter, who’s gearing for action after an off-season knee surgery. Having made headlines for her fierce and physical play, Affolter had to tackle a nagging knee issue this summer, but she's confident she’ll return stronger than ever.
The 21-year-old is expected back by early November, and she’s ready to step up as a key leader for Iowa’s restructured roster, aiming to guide a younger lineup to big wins.
It’s no surprise that Affolter has taken the next step, especially after her leadership journey has been shaped by players like former teammate Kate Martin. She’s now eager to set the tone for Iowa's freshmen. The Iowa coach also voiced full support behind her guard during the injury.
“She has the support of her teammates and coaches, and we look forward to having a healthy Sydney back.”
Last season, Affolter had impressive numbers, averaging 12.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists in nine games. Her defensive grit and improved 41.4% 3-point shooting make her an asset on the court.
