After taking the 2023-24 college basketball season off, Haley Cavinder returned to Miami for her final year of eligibility.

Ahead of the 2024 women's college basketball season, Haley Cavinder has been named one of the five captains of the Miami team alongside Hanna. The development undoubtedly places a huge leadership responsibility on the two sisters following their return to the team.

Haley’s boyfriend Jake Ferguson was elated to see her take up the leadership role in the Hurricanes’ team. The Dallas Cowboys tight end celebrated and hyped up his girlfriend in an Instagram story, sharing Hurricanes Basketball's post announcing the five captains and captioning it with:

“LFG!”

Haley Cavinder "had a mental breakdown" when she started dating Jake Ferguson

Haley Cavinder faced a difficult start to her relationship with Jake Ferguson. However, she was quickly able to adapt to the situation, fostering a smoother connection between her and Jake.

The Miami guard recalled having a difficult time dealing with the hurtful comments on social media when their relationship became known to public. The negative attention took a toll on her early on, highlighting the pressures of being in the public eye.

“I had a mental breakdown, but that was a while ago,” Haley said. Honestly, I’m very confident and comfortable sharing my relationship because Jake was very loud about it.

“He was always like that so it made me feel very comfortable and confident sharing him as well… He’s a big part of my life and will continue so it’s not something that I [want to] keep private. I go to Cowboys games and he’ll be at my games.”

Lots of anticipation after Hanna and Haley Cavinder made the decision to return

There’s been a lot of anticipation since Haley Cavinder and her sister, Hanna, announced their return to Miami. Considering their history in the program, a lot of fans expect bigger success in 2024-25 and the sisters appear to be up for it.

“We both feel like we have more to give,” Haley said. “We want to end our college basketball careers on a high note, and we wanted to do it together.

The support from our coaches, teammates, and family made it clear that this was the right move for us. We both knew we had unfinished business on the court and wanted to give it one more shot, together.”

The Cavinder twins played a crucial role in leading the Hurricanes to the Elite Eight in 2023 and many expect something much better in the upcoming season. A national title success will undoubtedly be the perfect way to end their college career.
