The Paige Bueckers-led UConn Huskies took a break from the cold weather at Storrs for a sunny week in the Bahamas. The Huskies participated in the Baha Mar Women's Championship on Monday and Wednesday, playing against Oregon State and Ole Miss.
After taking home the victory in both games, the UConn players enjoyed their time off with a beach day. The Huskies then snapped a photo together with the ocean as their background and shared it on Instagram on Saturday.
"Grateful for our time in the Bahamas 💙," the caption read.
Fans in the comments were excited that the UConn players got to enjoy some time off and also complimented their outfits.
"Love my team. Look at those gorgeous girls," one fan wrote.
"This team can dress," another commented.
"Everyone's stunning," a fan wrote.
"My girl pops," another fan commented.
The Huskies won 71-52 in the first round against Oregon State and took home the championship after the 73-60 win over Ole Miss. UConn's Azzi Fudd shared in a press conference that their time in the Bahamas has helped her forge bonds with her team, especially rookie Sarah Strong.
"I was just telling Paige (Bueckers) and everyone. I'm roommates with Sarah (Strong) and I feel like we bonded so much on this trip, just forcing us to live together for these few days. That goes a long way on the court. I just feel like I know her a lot better.
"I think also getting to spend this time in such an amazing place other than Storrs with the great weather and getting to bond with each other in situations that we wouldn't usually."
Azzi Fudd and Paige Bueckers are expected to play crucial roles this season as the Huskies attempt to build on their Final Four run from last season. Their on-court chemistry is the most important as Fudd makes a return after a season away with injuries.
Paige Bueckers comments on their performances in the Bahamas
Against the Beavers, Paige Bueckers finished with 23 points, three rebounds and six assists. The guard had 29 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals. Commenting on their performances post-game on Wednesday, Bueckers said:
"Yeah, I mean, this is what we came here to do. Obviously, it was a business trip—a little bit different than Storrs, being here in the Bahamas. So it’s been fun, but we all came here for a purpose and for a reason.
"That was to get the championship and to play against a really tough-minded, defensive-minded Ole Miss team that challenged us in a lot of different ways. So, for us to get the victory tonight, it was huge."
Paige Bueckers and the Huskies will next face Holy Cross on Tuesday.
