Flau’jae Johnson celebrated NBA Jersey Day on Oct. 21 with a shout-out to her college state, Louisiana. The Tigers guard wore a customized New Orleans Pelicans jersey with her name and #4.
Johnson shared a video on her Instagram story with the jersey and said:
"What's up ya'll? Happy National Jersey Day. Big 4. I'm in Louisiana so I'm rocking with the Pels. You know the vibes man. Make sure you rep you team, let's go."
Flau’jae Johnson is preparing for her third year with the Tigers. Last season, she averaged 14.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.1 steals and 1.0 blocks per game. She made 50.4% shots from the floor, including 38.0% from the 3-point range.
“Being a junior now, you get a feel for everything that is going on," Johnson said (via On3). "You don’t think too much about the [preseason], you think about getting on a roll at the right time and on a roll when SEC play comes around. It’s just about building right now, learning each other, and keeping that chemistry growing.”
Apart from her on-court achievements, Flau’jae Johnson is making strides in terms of NIL as well. The guard is signed with Puma and was featured in the first-ever global campaign, “FOREVER. FASTER. See The Game Like We Do.” with five other Puma basketball athletes: Breanna Stewart, Scoot Henderson, LaMelo Ball and Tyrese Haliburton.
Flau’jae Johnson promises to lead the Tigers on a better run this season
After winning the 2023 NCAA championship, the LSU Tigers were expected to repeat it but fell short as they exited after the Elite Eight loss to Caitlin Clark and Iowa Hawkeyes. Taking LSU back to the top is Flau’jae Johnson's goal for the 2024-25 season.
“Last year is all the motivation I need, really," she said. "Knowing that we were right there, two games away from the championship and we went home early. That still makes me mad just like it did when we lost. I don’t cry, but it’s turned into anger and that’s all I need.”
The Tigers have also undergone some changes as Angel Reese left for the WNBA and Hailey Van Lith transferred to TCU. When talking about the new team, Johnson said:
“This is a different version of LSU. Last year, we didn’t push the ball as much as we could have, but this year, we’re going to be moving fast and that’s an emphasis from coach Mulkey this year. Obviously, her emphasis is always defense, defense, defense, but we’re definitely quicker this year.”
