LSU Tigers’ Seimone Augustus took to social media on Tuesday to share an iconic speech from Hall of Fame coach Bob Knight.

Seimone Augustus, who joined LSU in May as an assistant coach, also played for the Tigers from 2002 to 2006. Seimone was the first overall pick for the Minnesota Lynx in the 2006 WNBA draft.

The eight-time All-Star led the Lynx to four WNBA championships (2011, 2013, 2015, 2017) and also won the 2011 finals MVP award.

On Seimone’s Instagram story, she shared a motivational speech from Hall of Fame coach Bob Knight.

Her legacy at LSU speaks for itself, she led the Tigers to three straight NCAA Final Four appearances from 2004 to 2006 and became a household name in women’s college basketball.

Seimone Augustus won three gold medals for the United States national team at the Olympics (2008, 2012 & 2016).

Seimone Augustus develops bond with Flau’jae Johnson and LSU players as the “Players’ Coach”

Now an assistant coach for the LSU Tigers, Seimone Augustus brings not just her experience but also a calm and honest approach that has quickly made her a favorite among the Tigers players.

One player she’s connected with deeply is rising star Flau’jae Johnson and their bond is built on one simple principle: honesty.

During a Dec. 5 appearance on Flau’jae’s "Best of Both Worlds" podcast, Augustus shared her coaching philosophy.

“I think I’m like the voice of reason, I’m the calm spirit on the staff,” Augustus said. “I’m honest; I tell y’all what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. If I had to sum it up, I’m a players’ coach.”

This mix of honesty and support defines Augustus’ style, helping players grow both on and off the court.

Augustus knows firsthand what it takes to excel and has lived life as both a star player and now as a coach, which gives her a unique perspective.

In 2023, Augustus’ contributions to LSU were immortalized when she became the first LSU female athlete to be honored with a statue. Reflecting on her time as a player, Augustus shared on the podcast,

“I grew up going to LSU games. To walk out or run out and you see all of these fans, just kind of, like, going crazy over women’s basketball, obviously that was wild.”

Now back as a coach, her passion for the program’s success is as strong as ever.
