Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese have taken over the WNBA and have drawn much attention to the league. Both players already have fans arguing over who will win the Rookie of the Year award.
Flau'jae Johnson recently launched her Best of Both Worlds podcast on Thursday and hosted Stewart on it. Johnson is set to join the WNBA in two years and asked the New York Liberty forward, Breanna Stewart, her favorite rookie, while playfully adding:
In like 2 years, I'll be coming into the league. So, I'll be your favorite rookie. But, I wanna know, who has impressed you the most this year, currently in the WNBA?
To which Stewart said:
"As far as this year's rookie class? I think that obviously Caitlin, the way that she's just come in and continuing to get Indiana kinda back where they were as far as the attendance and stuff like that. You know, like she has range like no other," Breanna Stewart said.
"But I think Angel, the way that she is constantly working hard. Doing all, like the dirty work right now, like rebounding, steals. Like making sure that she's in all of the action in whatever way she can help her team."
Stewart also added LA Sparks' Cameron Brink into the mix. The forward sustained an ACL injury last month and will miss her rookie season.
"And then, I would say, Cam. It's similar, like kind of just like stuffing the stat sheet; blocks, rebounds and letting the rest come. They're just learning and figuring it out what they can be doing on the court."
Caitlin Clark boosts WNBA viewership to an all-time high
On June 30, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever took on Phoenix Mercury. The game was the most talked about because of Diana Taurasi's comments about Clark. Fans came in large numbers to watch the showdown of 'The GOAT vs. The Rook" and broke viewership records.
"Sunday’s Fever-Mercury WNBA regular season game averaged 1.93 million viewers on ESPN, marking the fourth-largest WNBA audience since Memorial Day 2001," SportsMedia Watch reported. "The top four have come this season alone, all for games involving Caitlin Clark and the Fever."
Additionally, Fever's Tuesday night clash against the LA Vegas Aces drew 20,366 fans to the T-Mobile Arena. This was the largest WNBA crowd in 25 years and set an attendance record for the Aces. The game was initially set to be played at the Michelob Ultra Arena but was moved just days before tip-off.
Caitlin Clark continues to break records in the WNBA as the Indiana Fever features in the top five most-viewed WNBA games since 2002. In the All-Star voting, Clark drew the most voters (700,735). Meanwhile, 2023's No. 1, A'ja Wilson, had 95,806 voters picking her.
