The Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame inducted LSU Tigers alum Seimone Augustus on June 22. Others in the Class of 2024 include mixed martial arts icon Daniel Cormier and New Orleans Saints' Drew Brees.

At the induction ceremony, LSU Tigers coach Kim Mulkey posed alongside Augustus. The Tigers Instagram handle shared the picture with a caption:

"Two generations of Louisiana Sports Hall of Famers"

Speaking on Seimone Augustus' induction in a statement from LSU, Mulkey said:

“Seimone Augustus is one of the greatest players in the history of our game. She has been successful at every level of basketball, and what she did for this program and this university deserves to be recognized.”

The two-time Naismith College Player of the Year, Wooden Award and Wade Trophy winner averaged 19.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2 assists in her four-year college career with the Tigers. She led LSU to three Final Four games in a row and finished college with 2,702 points, the second-highest in LSU history and with a 121-19 overall record.

Besides the on-court achievements, the Baton Rouge, Louisiana native also increased the Tigers' popularity as ticket sales reached an all-time high. In the 59 home games she played during her college career, LSU averaged 5,227 ticket sales, including 15,233 and 15,217 against Tennessee in 2005 and 2003, respectively.

Seimone Augustus was picked No. 1 overall in the 2006 WNBA Draft by the Minnesota Lynx. She won four WNBA championships with the Lynx and played for fifteen years, her final season was with the Las Vegas Aces, before retiring in 2020.

Augustus' long list of honors includes an induction into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in April 2024 and into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in October 2024. In Jan. 2023, Seimone Augustus became the first female athlete to have her statue erected at the LSU training center along with other Tigers greats Pete Maravich, Bob Pettit and Shaquille O'Neal.

Seimone Augustus will return to Baton Rouge as a coach

In late May, the LSU Tigers announced that Seimone Augustus will join their coaching staff as an assistant coach. She previously worked in the same capacity with the LA Sparks for the 2021-22 season.

“As a player at LSU, Seimone helped transform the program as the best player in the nation. She brought LSU to national prominence," coach Mulkey said.
"She will be a tremendous member on our staff as someone with great experience who has excelled at every level of the game from high school in Baton Rouge to college to the WNBA to the Olympics"

The three-time Olympic gold winner will help the Tigers navigate their post-Angel Reese era as they failed to defend their 2023 National Championship win last season.
