Macaleab Rich was on Tuesday reportedly cited by the Riley County Police Department for possession of marijuana. The Kansas State basketball player was said to have been pulled over and arrested at the intersection of Claflin Road and Sunset Avenue in Manhattan at around 11:48 a.m.

Furthermore, the police also cited Rich for driving without proof of motor vehicle liability in its daily media citation report. The Wildcats sophomore forward joins 17 other names cited by the Riley County Police Department in its reports on Wednesday morning.

It's unknown whether the forward is still in police custody or has been granted bail. The Kansas State athletic department has also not released any statement on the incident regarding Rich. The college basketball world anticipates further updates on his situation in the coming weeks.

Macaleab Rich college basketball career so far

Macaleab Rich saw limited action as a freshman for Kansas State last season under coach Jerome Tang, following his recruitment as a four-star prospect. As a reserve for the Wildcats, he made appearances in 16 games, averaging 3.8 points and 2.5 rebounds.

Rich made a noteworthy contribution to a Wildcats team that finished 19-15 and fell to Iowa in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament. He is widely anticipated to take a more prominent role in the program in the upcoming season following a series of portal exits.

Despite his limited minutes, he showcased his potential with standout performances last season. This included a season-high 13 points against Central Arkansas and nine rebounds against Nebraska. His flashes of talent hinted at a promising future within the program.

Macaleab Rich is one of only three returning scholarship players from last season, highlighting his importance to the Wildcats' roster as they rebuild for the upcoming year. He gets the chance to showcase his talent in an environment where he feels loved next season.

“I chose Kansas State because I felt the most love I’ve felt in my life when I went on campus,” Rich said to On3 following his commitment to Kansas State. “I built a great bond with the coaches and players and it just felt like home. The style of play fits how I play.”

Kansas State will seek a return to the NCAA Tournament in the 2024-25 college basketball season as Jerome Tang enters his third season at the program. And without a doubt, Rich is expected to be one of the more important players on the team's roster next season.
