Notre Dame was the talk of the town after beating Penn State on Thursday in the semifinals of the College Football Playoffs. Their win garnered reactions from many on social media, including WNBA player Marina Mabrey's sister, Michaela Mabrey.
Penn State led 10-3 at halftime, but the Fighting Irish tied the game at 10 apiece with a touchdown in the third quarter. Both teams fought hard in the fourth quarter, but Notre Dame came back from a 24-17 deficit to win 27-24 and advance to the national championship game. They will face Ohio State at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on January 20.
After the game, the Fighting Irish women's basketball assistant coach Michaela Mabrey reacted to the Orange Bowl result and she only needed two words to describe her feelings.
"NATTY GAME!!!!," Mabrey said on X.
What's next for Michaela Mabrey and Notre Dame?
The No. 3 Notre Dame Women's basketball team are on an eight-game win streak and they lead the ACC. The Fighting Irish have a 13-2 record this season. Mabrey is in her sixth season as the program's assistant coach. She is also the recruiting coordinator for the program at her alma mater.
Mabrey was a part of three Final Four runs and appeared in two title games for the Fighting Irish between 2012-2016. Fast forward to today, Mabrey is helping her team from the sidelines. The squad averages 89.1 points on 49.8% shooting from the field and 43.8% from beyond the arc.
Hannah Hidalgo leads the way with 25.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.1 steals and 3.7 assists per game. She has been ably supported by Olivia Miles who averages 16.6 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.7 rebounds. The No. 3 Fighting Irish will be on the road when they face the Clemson Tigers at the Littlejohn Coliseum on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
