Led by 30th-year head coach Tom Izzo, the Michigan State Spartans are ready for the 2024-25 season. They are coming off a 20–15 season (10–10 Big Ten) and giving Izzo his 700th win in the middle of the season.

Michigan State embarks on the 2024-25 campaign with goals of a deep NCAA run and a Big Ten championship. With that, let’s look at the potential starting lineup that Tom Izzo will run for the Spartans this season.

What will be Tom Izzo's Michigan State's starting lineup in the 2024-25 season?

Last season scoring and steals leader Tyson Walker and rebounding leader Malik Hall are no longer with the program. Next vets in line A.J. Hoggard and Mady Sissoko have transferred to Vanderbilt and California Golden Bears respectively.

With that, Tom Izzo’s team can mount a lineup of young talents on the front and backcourt which can look something like this:

  • G: Jeremy Fears Jr (Redshirt Freshman)
  • SG: Jaden Akins (Senior)
  • SF: Frankie Fidler (Senior)
  • PF: Xavier Booker (Sophomore)
  • C: Szymon Zapala (Senior)

The lineup can change significantly as the season progresses, depending on matchups, scouting and roster health.

Nevertheless, Tom Izzo did not shy away from playing the mentioned lineup in Spain, during the Spartans’ 10-day overseas trip last month (Madrid, Valencia and Barcelona).

What to expect from the Spartans' roster in the coming season?

Despite losing significant players, Michigan State is bringing a good blend of veteran and growing talent this season.

Xavier Booker and Jeremy Fears displayed flashes of their potential last year and will be encouraged to take on leadership roles. Transfer Frankie Fidler will add needed length and offensive mindset on the wing, enabling Akins to play as SG.

Tre Holloman can serve as a reliable guard option for Fears. Jaxon Kohler, once he leaves his foot surgery behind, can not only be a backup for Booker but can also grip the frontcourt.

Moreover, Booker can mount his breakout season and become the best player on Tom Izzo’s roster.
