Michigan State coach Tom Izzo shared that the Spartans guard Jeremy Fears Jr. has almost recovered. Izzo shared that there was room for betterment but the guard was taking steps towards improvement each day.

Fears suffered a gunshot wound last December. The injury proved season-ending for the Spartans guard.

“Jeremy's health is probably at 95%. He's still at times maybe doesn't have quite the explosion, but it's coming every day. It's getting better and better,” Izzo said per Detroit Free Press.

Fears was shot in the leg in his hometown while the MSU star was on holiday. The surgery took over three hours to remove the bullet.

Before the unfortunate incident in December, Jeremy Fears appeared in 12 games for the Spartans, averaging 3.5 points, 1.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists. He shot 50% from the field and 16.7% from the 3-point range.

Fears laid all the fears of his fans to rest when he appeared in MSU games in Spain in August this year. Before the overseas trip, Fears showed gratitude for the opportunity:

"Grateful for this opportunity to get to play some scrimmage games, and just being able to play again. Who knows what could have happened? But I'm still able to play at 99%, back with my team, back at the program that I love. I can't really complain."

On Monday, Fears participated in the first preseason practice of the MSU. Crowds cheered upon the appearance of Jeremy's Fears.

Tom Izzo showers praise on Jeremy Fears

The Spartans coach was all praise for the shooting and playmaking abilities of Jeremy. He added that Izzo always aims at constant improvement, per Detroit Free Press:

“He's a phenomenal passer, he's continually working on his shooting. Thank God he's a very good free-throw shooter. He made some steps that was good for him. That was one of the reasons he did it, to try to get some guys like that a chance to play.”

Michigan State will face Marquette on October 13 in an exhibition game at The Superior Dome. Fears will likely play the game. It will be a chance for him to get back on track and develop on-court chemistry with newcomers like Frankie Fidler and Szymon Zapala.

Jeremy was granted a redshirt after his injury limited his freshman-year appearances. Jeremy will be able to have four more years of college eligibility as a result.
