LSU guard Mikaylah Williams reacted with authority to the praise of Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant after dropping 22 points in the No. 5 Lady Tigers' 91-64 victory over Seton Hall in the Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Showcase on Tuesday night.
The six-foot guard shot 8 of 16 from the field including 6 of 11 from the 3-point line. She paired with Aneesah Morrow and helped LSU secure its 13th straight win in the 2024-25 women's college basketball season.
Williams and Morant wear similar No. 12 jerseys for their respective teams and the Murray State standout was quick to recognize the 19-year-old star's explosion for the Lady Tigers and delivered a four-word post on X that said:
"mikaylah williams !!! da goods"
Minutes after Morant's post, WIlliams responded to the tweet and said.
"it's in the 12 blood"
Williams has been one of the top contributors for LSU this season, averaging 15.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.6 steals in 12 games. The sophomore has shot 47.6% from the field, including 39.2% from 3-pointers, and a 90.9% from the free-throw line.
Mikaylah Williams, Aneesah Morrow star as LSU routs Seton Hall
LSU resumed its superb start for the 2024-25 women's college basketball season, routing Seton Hall to gain its 13th straight victory.
Mikaylah Williams scored 22 points in 33 minutes for the Lady Tigers, who also saw big production from Aneesah Morrow.
Morrow, the team's leading rebounder, hauled down 19 boards to go along with a team-high 24 points to solidify the attack of the Kim Mulkey-coached squad. The 6-1 senior shot 8 of 13, including 2 of 3 from the 3-point line, and made 6 of 8 shots from free throws and tallied two assists, three steals and one block.
Flau'Jae Johnson added 17 points, five rebounds, three assists, one steal and two blocks while Kailyn Gilbert contributed 14 points, four rebounds, two assists, one steal off the bench for LSU, who shot 53.7% from the field and 45.0% from the 3-point line.
The Lady Tigers built a 52-25 advantage in the first two quarters and never looked back. They dominated the fast break points 14-0 and gained a 38-18 edge in inside points.
Faith Masonius put up 29 points for the Pirates, who dropped to 8-3. Jada Eads added 20 points in a losing cause.
LSU will be back on the court on Thursday as it visits UIC at the Credit Union 1 Arena in Chicago.
