MiLaysia Fulwiley continued her trail of inconsistency in the 2024-25 women's college basketball season, tallying so-so numbers for No. 3 South Carolina on Thursday.
Despite her off-night, the Gamecocks carved off an 81-70 win over No. 8 Duke in the ACC-SEC Challenge on Thursday at the Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, South Carolina.
The 5-10 sophomore came up with three points, one rebound and one block in 15 minutes off the bench for South Carolina, which improved to 8-1. Fulwiley shot 1 of 7 from the field and 1 of 2 from free throws for another disappointing night for the supposed off-the-bench bench spark.
Gamecocks coach Dawn Staley inserted Fulwiley at the start of the game to provide instant offense. However, she misfired on her only attempt and committed a foul in the first quarter. Her lack of production didn't matter as South Carolina was comfortably up 28-12.
Fulwiley couldn't buy a basket in the second period, missing a layup and a 3-point attempt. She'd grab a defensive rebound for the Gamecocks, who built a 20-point lead at the half, 51-31. The WJ Keenan product would score her first two points on a buzzer-beating layup that kept South Carolina on top, 68-48.
Fulwiley had a defensive gem at the start of the fourth quarter, blocking Oluchi Okananawa's layup 10 seconds into the final period. She'd make a free throw on the 8:56 mark to score her third point.
She'll be replaced in the middle of the fourth in favor of South Carolina's starters. Here are Fulwiley's stats in the Gamecocks' win over the Blue Devils.
