Chicago rookie Angel Reese and LSU Lady Tigers head coach Kim Mulkey shared a heartwarming moment during the Sky vs. Mystics game on June 7. Reese and Mulkey were seen hugging each other after she and her team won the game.
After winning against Washington, she attended a press conference where media reporters asked her about the heartwarming moment the two shared. The former LSU Lady Tigers star said that she was still in touch with her college basketball coach, as Mulkey also reaches out to Reese's family members from time to time.
"She’ll support you no matter what. She’s like a mother to me. She calls me still, she checks in on me making sure I’m good. Checks in on my family, calls my grandma…I love Coach Mulkey…,” Reese said.
This media interaction was seen by Ole Miss women's basketball head coach, Yolett McCuin, who praised her on social media for having the best transition into the WNBA.
"I hope young thunderkittens are taking notes from Angel Reese in media relations! Angel is handling her transition like a pro! 🤯 Whomever is on her team is elite! And I love it for her!" McCuin wrote on Twitter.
Angel Reese took note of McCuin's positive comments about her and showed appreciation for the kind words.
LSU HC Kim Mulkey once used a creative marketing strategy by name-dropping Angel Reese and Hailey Van Lith
Kim Mulkey is a strategic coach who has guided many WNBA stars from Baylor and now at LSU. She used creative and catchy tactics to inspire fans to stay connected to their favorite women's college basketball players.
When LSU had two regular-season games left in last year's season, she used a smart tactic to lure fans to attend the last two games. She name-dropped her biggest stars, Angel Reese and Hailey Van Lith, who have now transferred to the TCU Horned Frogs, in the hopes of attracting fans to the games.
"It's an eight o'clock game, a lot of people will stay home and watch it on TV," Mulkey said. "But, I hope more will come because you've got two games left in the regular season and potentially if you can get a top-16 seed, you got two games here."
"So, it's winding down. You may never see the likes of Angel again and Hailey again as they will move on to their pro careers so get out here and watch them and see them in person."
Though LSU ended up losing the SEC title against the South Carolina Gamecocks, they had a successful run in the NCAAW tournament as they reached the Elite Eight.
