Monty Williams takes over as head coach of son Elijah's HS team TMI Episcopal 

After a quick conlusion to his Detroit Pistons coaching role, Monty Williams will lead an high school team in San Antonio. The former NBA star is the new coach for TMI Episcopal, where he will coach the basketball team that includes his son, Elijah.

Williams has recently moved to San Antonio along with his wife, Lisa, making the transition easier for the entire family. Elijah has recently transferred to TMI Episcopal from Brother Rice in Michigan. He will enter college in 2026.

Williams can work on developing his younger son, Micah. He is also enrolled at TMI Episcopal and is projected to enter college in 2029.

Before Williams' stint in Detroit, he enjoyed some time working in Texas-based institutions. He was interning with the San Antonio Spurs when the franchise lifted the title in 2005. He also served as the organization’s vise president of basketball operations for two years (2016-18).

Monty Williams might be the highest-paid basketball coach in high school

Williams’ high school stint comes after he was fired from the Pistons’ head coaching role this June. He was bought to the franchise last offseason behind a six-year $78.5 million contract with hopes of turning a young roster into a defensive powerhouse.

However, the Pistons mounted the most disappointing season in the franchise’s history, a 14-68 campaign.

From October end to late December, the Pistons churned out a 28-game losing streak, the longest losing run in NBA history.

Even though Pistons gave Monty Williams no time to redeem himself, they still owe him $65 million, as part of his guaranteed amount in the contract. He will receive the paycheck over the next five years.

Williams has a 381-404 record in the NBA after coaching the New Orleans Pelicans, Detroit Pistons and the Phoenix Suns.

He led the Suns to the best record in the league during the 2021-22 season and the NBA finals, earning him the Coach of the Year award.
