The new college basketball season is a couple of weeks away and Kansas' Hunter Dickinson is in the debate surrounding the best player in the division. Duke freshman Cooper Flagg and Rutgers' Ace Bailey are also fan favorites.
On Monday, Bleacher Report Hoops took to Instagram to ignite a hyped-up discussion on "who is going to be the best player in college basketball next season."
The front graphic showed four stars — Ace Bailey, Cooper Flagg, Mark Sears and Hunter Dickinson. The Kansas center has been labeled as one of the top players but many hoops fans do not appear to agree and roasted him in the post.
"Hunter Dickinson is without a doubt the most overrated player in college 🏀," one fan wrote.
"Throwing Dickinson in here is crazy," a fan said, not satisfied seeing the Jayhawks' big man considered for the honor.
"Did you just put Dickinson in the same list as cooper Flagg??" another user questioned.
"it sure as hell isn’t Hunter Dickinson," one fan commented.
"Hunter Dickinson? Is he even a top 15 pick?," a fan asked.
"We can all agree it’s NOT hunter dickerson, he’ll be forgotten in 2 years," another one chimed in.
While fans ruled out the 7-foot-2 star from the discussion, many echoed North Carolina's RJ Davis as their pick for the favorite to shine.
"It’s Rj Davis and not close," one fan said.
"RJ DAVIS HANDS DOWN," another added.
"RJ Davis all day baby," a fan wrote.
Hunter Dickinson joins RJ Davis and Mark Sears on AP preseason All-American
Dickinson transferred to Kansas from Michigan last season. He had a decent first year at KU, averaging 17.9 points and 10.9 rebounds per game.
On Monday, the Associated Press released their preseason All-American team and Dickinson was named for the second season in a row. He was joined by UNC senior guard RJ Davis, Duke’s Cooper Flagg and Alabama’s Mark Sears.
Dickinson got 42 votes from the AP panel. Sears was almost a unanimous choice, receiving 54 votes while Davis got 51.
Kansas coach Bill Self has been mostly satisfied with the Virginia native's performance last season but he believes he can take his game to new heights.
"We love Hunter — the one thing I don't think he did last year as well as he can do, he didn't shoot the ball consistently," Self told KU Sports.
Dickinson will enter his final season of college basketball with the Jayhawks. He did not make the early cut of ESPN's projection of the top 100 prospects for the 2025 NBA draft.
