The Iowa Hawkeyes' Jada Gyamfi showed her Swiftie status on Instagram. Thursday marked the opening game of the 2024 NFL season for the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens, and Taylor Swift was in attendance to cheer for Travis Kelce.
The singer opted for a denim-on-denim look which she paired with burgundy knee-high boots and the red lipstick she sports at every Chiefs game.
Jada Gyamfi reposted the photographs on her Instagram story and wrote:
"Mother is slaying."
Gyamfi is preparing for her junior season with the Hawkeyes. In her first two years with the team, the forward did not see much time as she struggled with injuries. In her sophomore year, Gyamfi averaged 1.4 points, 0.6 rebounds and 0.2 assists in 20 games at 4.1 minutes per contest.
However, the forward said during her media availability in July that she has been working on her performance over the offseason. When talking about the things that held her back in previous years, Jada Gyamfi said:
"I think the main thing coming into college; you got here for a reason, so you have all the skill set. I think confidence was the biggest thing for me, especially coming in.
"I was behind Kate Martin and Sydney. Two girls who were older than me, they were a lot stronger than me when I first got here. So, that was a big part of it too, in the weight room getting stronger, getting faster, and then building my confidence out about as well."
Jada Gyamfi shares her thoughts on the new Iowa roster
In the offseason, the Hawkeyes lost Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin to the WNBA draft while Gabbie Marshall and Molly Davis exhausted their college eligibility. The coaching staff also underwent a change, with Lisa Bluder retiring and Jan Jensen taking over.
Talking about the absentees in the roster, Jada Gyamfi said:
"That first day, I was super emotional, trying not to show it because I am really excited for the team we have this year and for the returners and the new kids, but I notice it (their absence) in the weirdest moments.
“It is so weird looking over and not seeing (Clark) there. And then with Kate, I just (miss) her presence. Everyone always talks about her being the best leader and she genuinely is the best person, the best leader.”
Along with three freshmen, the Hawkeyes have also added Lucy Olsen from the transfer portal.
