Dawn Staley explains key reasons for Memphis exhibition clash
Dawn Staley's South Carolina Gamecocks will face Memphis in the first Hoops for St. Jude Tip-Off Classic at FedEx Forum. She explained via Memphis Commercial Appeal why she picked the Tigers as their exhibition game opponent and emphasized the importance of supporting St Jude Children's Research Hospital.
"The people showed me so much love that I’m really looking forward to it," Dawn Staley said in September. "And then, we’re going to do whatever we need to do to raise awareness for St. Jude (Children’s Research Hospital)."
"We’re going to have an opportunity to meet the decision-makers at St. Jude that help put this all on, which is great because it doesn’t happen without their innovative thinking."
After their trip to Memphis, the Gamecocks will be back home to play another exhibition game against the Clayton State Lakers. Their regular season will begin on Nov. 4 in Las Vegas when they face Michigan at T-Mobile Arena.
