Kate Martin's girlfriend helps pack up as former Iowa star joins Golden State Valkyries
Kate Martin, who played her rookie season with the Las Vegas Aces, was selected by the Golden State Valkyries in the 2024 WNBA Expansion Draft.
Martin posted a TikTok video, showing she was already on the move to Vegas.
She captioned the video, "see you later Las Vegas! Cant wait for the next chapter 💜 #diml [Day in My Life]".
The video began with Martin saying:
"Okay, hi everybody, this is a day in my life, my last day in Las Vegas, Nevada."
She showed her girlfriend, Claire Gransee, helping her with the moving process. The couple went to Martin's favorite diner for breakfast (while listening to the "Wicked" soundtrack during the car ride) and ordered a spread of food.
After that, Martin went to the Aces' practice facility to clean out her locker.
"Really bittersweet. This is kind of when everything hit me, when I walked in the gym and realized this isn't where I'll be practicing anymore," she said.
Martin and her girlfriend had already packed up their flat, parked a rented U-Haul truck, and spent the night at a dinner and a concert. They met with Aces players Kiah Stokes and Alysha Clark at the show.
Finally, Martin and Gransee rode a rollercoaster and said goodnight.
Golden State will play at the Chase Center in San Francisco as the 13th team in the WNBA. Natalie Nakase, a former NBA assistant coach with the Aces, will coach the Valkyries, who will wear violet, gold, black, and white.
