NBA scouts compare Cooper Flagg to former Utah Jazz star
Cooper Flagg is yet to make his debut in the NCAA 2024-25 season but NBA scouts are already hyping him up. In one of the latest scouting reports shared by HoopsHype's Michael Scotto, various NBA scouts see flashes of former Utah Jazz star Andrei Kirilenko in the Montverde Academy standout.
“Flagg is like Kirilenko, he’s very impactful defensively, can guard multiple positions, and is a great weak-side shot blocker,” one scout said, via Basketball on X.
“Flagg has a quick first step and is an aggressive finisher around the basket. He doesn’t create much off the dribble offensively but creates more offense with his defense than anyone in the country,” another scout commented.
The 17-year-old Newport-born star averaged 16.4 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.7 blocks per game in his last high school stint, leading the Montverde Academy Eagles to their eighth national crown.
AK-47, on the other hand, played 13 seasons for Utah, Minnesota and Brooklyn in the NBA and tallied 11.8 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 2.7 apg, 1.4 spg and 1.8 bpg. He once led the league in blocks per game at 3.3 rejections.
Flagg is also deemed to have the higher ceiling over Kirilenko in terms of offense and is expected to lead the Blue Devils in the coming NCAA 2024-25 men's basketball season.
