The UConn Huskies are back in the practice facility preparing for the 2024-25 season, with Paige Bueckers set to appear for her final college campaign. After a Final Four run last year, the Huskies will attempt to finally win the NCAA championship and end their nine-year title drought.
On Monday, the UConn Huskies shared snippets from their practice sessions on Instagram.
"We’ve run out of ways to say here’s a workout video. So here’s a workout video," they wrote in the caption.
Fans in the comments were excited, as one wrote:
"Natty is downloading."
Here are a few more reactions:
UConn's was heavily affected by injuries to several players last season, such as Azzi Fudd, Aubrey Griffin and Caroline Ducharme. Despite the odds, the Huskies survived thanks to core seniors Bueckers, Aaliyah Edwards and Nika Muhl.
With Edwards and Muhl now in the WNBA, Bueckers must lead the team all by herself. She will be helped by other upperclassmen like Fudd and Griffin, but the guard holds more responsibility. Princeton transfer Kaitlyn Chen is expected to be Muhl's replacement.
Paige Bueckers shares her impression of the incoming freshman recruits
UConn has strengthened its roster with the addition of No. 1 recruit Sarah Strong, along with Allie Ziebell and Morgan Cheli. While Ziebell and Cheli joined the practices in June, Strong was occupied with her Team USA duties at the U18 3×3 World Cup.
During a media conference in July, Bueckers spoke highly about the freshmen and said they are ready to impact and contribute immediately (via CT Insider):
"Allie is a shooter, less of a slasher than Caroline (Ducharme) but reminds me of Caroline, finishes well at the rim. … Morgan also kind of reminds me of Caroline, slasher, can shoot the 3 well. She's vocal coming in as a freshman.
"Sarah was only here for a little bit, but she does a lot of things on the court. She can pass really well. I think her IQ is very high. I think that's what stands out to me. She could shoot it. She can drive it. She defends well, so she's very versatile."
The UConn Huskies will start their 2024-25 season on Nov. 4 against Fort Hays State.
