Nick Saban rubs salt in Marshawn Lynch's wounds with a classic joke on College GameDay

Marshawn Lynch made an appearance on College GameDay this week as the iconic show made its way to the home of the California Golden Bears for the first time ever. Lynch was the guest picker and had a moment while doing this with Kirb Herbstreit.

Lynch was also reminded of a moment that had defined his career in the NFL. During the final moments of Super Bowl 49 between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks, the Seattle offense was at the Patriots' one-yard line. The Seahawks were close to scoring what would be the game-winning touchdown.

However, quarterback Russell Wilson decided to throw the ball and the pass was intercepted by Malcolm Buttler. The play is one of the most significant in recent history.

This is because if a different decision was made (to hand Marshawn Lynch the ball) the Seattle Seahawks would have won their second consecutive Super Bowl.

On Saturday's edition of College GameDay, former Alabama coach Nick Saban brought this moment up in a conversation with Lynch, saying:

"4th and one in the Super Bowl. I'm giving your a*s the ball."

Nick Saban knows what the Seattle Seahawks needed to do on that play. Hand Marshawn Lynch the ball, and let him do the rest. If this had happened, Lynch would have been a two-time Super Bowl champion and potentially the MVP of the game.

How did others react to the play?

At the time, commentator Al Michaels also showed his disapproval of the decision to not hand the ball to Lynch, saying:

"I'm sorry, but I can't believe the call. … I cannot believe the call. You've got Marshawn Lynch in the backfield. You've got a guy that has been borderline unstoppable in this part of the field. I can't believe the call ... If I lose the Super Bowl because Marshawn Lynch can't get it in from the 1-yard line, so be it. So be it! But there is no way ... I don't believe the call."

The play has also been described as the 'worst play in Super Bowl history' and could be seen as a stain for what was a good coaching career for Pete Carol.

As for Lynch's performance during the entire game, he recorded 102 rushing yards from 24 carries, scoring one touchdown. He also caught the ball for 31 yards. However, all of these figures are irrelevant, as if Lynch gained that one yard, it would have given him a championship.
