Eagle-eyed fans noticed No. 1 recruit Cooper Flagg showing support to 4x NBA champion Stephen Curry's comment at a 2024 Paris Olympics press conference. In the Instagram post by SportsCenter and NBAONESPN., Curry was asked about the team he is looking forward to playing against, to which he replied:
"Whoever's in the gold medal game."
Steph Curry's relaxed demeanor captured the attention of both fans and athletes, with Flagg liking the post.
Team USA men's basketball has a perfect record at the Olympics, winning the gold medal in all 19 appearances. Now, Curry's reply has reflected how confident he is about their 20th gold medal. They are set to kick-start their campaign on 28th July against Nikola Jokic's Serbia.
On the other hand, Cooper Flagg will kick-start his collegiate career with Duke in the 2024-25 season. In a recent interview with GQ Sports, he opened up about the one thing he is looking forward to, playing with Duke.
"I think just playing at Cameron. That's an atmosphere that's hard to find. I've heard so much about it, and I'm really excited. I can't wait to get on the court and play in front of that type of crowd," said Flagg.
Flagg attended Montverde Academy in his senior high school season and was named the National High School Player of the Year 2024. He led his team to a perfect 30.0 season, clinching the national championship. At the Nike EYBL 16U League, he averaged 26.8 ppg, proving why he is a potential No. 1 recruit in the 2025 NBA Draft.
Flagg is known to pull off spectacular passes and make pull-up jumpers. He thinks faster than any other player on the court as he tries to dominate from both ends of the court. He can block the shots, find steals, and make a 3-point shot, all in the same game.
Cooper Flagg's impressive performance for Select Team against Steph Curry's Team USA
Cooper Flagg was part of the Select Team which played against Team USA before the Paris Olympics. Being the youngest on the court, he outperformed many world-class players on the Select Team, which caught the eyes of the hoops universe.
NBA Insider, Marc J. Spears confirmed the same by tweeting the interaction with an NBA coach in attendance, without revealing his name.
"Was Cooper Flagg the best player in the USA Select Team? One current NBA head coach in attendance said yes," Spears tweeted on Monday.
Flagg's most impressive sequence came against Jrue Holiday who was picking him at half-court. He lost the 2024 NBA champion with ease and ended up netting a 3-pointer over Anthony Davis. The video of the sequence was posted on X, leaving hoops fans head over heels.
Such a performance from a player who is yet to lace up for his collegiate debut has marked a significant milestone in what promises to be a highly successful career ahead.
