TCU "Underfrog" Ella Hamlin was awarded a full scholarship by the Horned Frogs' second-year coach, Mark Campbell, on Tuesday. Hamlin's scholarship was greeted with celebrations from her teammates. The moment was captured in a series of photos on TCU's Instagram page.

The celebrations continued in the comments section as fans and Hamlin's teammates congratulated her achievement. That included the sophomore guard's teammate, Sedona Prince:

"There’s no one else more deserving of this than Ella 🩷🩷🩷."

Campbell awarded Hamlin the scholarship after No. 10 TCU's 90-81 win over UCF. The moment marks almost a year to the date of Tuesday's game when she played her first game for the Horned Frogs against the same opponent.

Mark Campbell thanks Emma Hamlin for her role in TCU's rejuvenated play

Emma Hamlin was one of TCU's "Underfrogs" to join the program after head coach Mark Campbell fielded open tryouts from the TCU student body last season. The Horned Frogs were dealing with a series of injuries, which forced them to forfeit two games due to a shortage of players.

Four students – Hamlin, Sarah Sylvester, Piper Davis and Mekhayia Moore – joined the team and helped TCU. Because of the adversity, the Horned Frogs started 14-0 (and was ranked No. 23 in early January) but finished 21-12. In her first game on Jan. 23, 2024, Hamlin helped the Horned Frogs pull off a 66-60 win over the UCF Knights.

The circumstances are different for TCU (18-1, 6-0 Big 12), which is ranked 10th, a year later. Hamlin was also the only "Underfrog" to return this season, which earned her the well-deserved scholarship.

"Ella, we're just super grateful for you," Campbell said in a video of the locker room moment posted to Instagram. "When there's adversity, most people run away from it. The 'Underfrogs,' adversity hit, and you guys decided to step up.
"I appreciate you, Ella, more than you know. That game a year ago was the foundation of our program. ... Thank you for stepping up to the plate and coming back and being a huge part of this team."

Hamlin, a Granbury, Texas, native, bypassed scholarship offers from smaller universities to study nursing at TCU. Then she had to reschedule her life and studies to join the women's basketball team. Although she is averaging 0.4 points, 0.1 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game, the sophomore guard remains a beloved member of the team.
