College hoops fans have been given an update on Azzi Fudd after she tweaked her right knee in UConn's win over Louisville on Dec. 7. While it doesn't look like Fudd will miss too much time, she has sprained her knee which will likely keep her out of their game against Notre Dame on Thursday night (Dec. 12).

On Tuesday, the Just Women's Sports Instagram page posted about Fudd, who is "day-to-day" according to UConn coach Geno Auriemma.

Fans were quick to jump online to express their distress about the update.

"Nooooo 😭😭😭" one fan commented.
"Nooo wtf that poor baby" another wrote.
"this cannot be happening 😭" another commented.

Some fans, however, chose to look on the bright side considering it's not a long-term injury for Fudd.

"Hoping for a speedy recovery Azzi 🙏" one fan commented.
"A sprain means we will see her soon! Wishing Azzi a speedy recovery!" another fan wrote.
"no re-tear so this is a win to me!" another commented.

No return date set for Azzi Fudd

Azzi Fudd is expected to miss the rest of this week with a minor knee sprain, but there is no confirmed return date set for her just yet. She'll be evaluated on a day-to-day basis and is unlikely to take the court against Hannah Hidalgo and the No. 8 Notre Dame on Thursday (Dec. 12).

While her absence will undoubtedly be felt in such a big game, the good news is that Fudd avoided another serious injury. Her teammate, Paige Bueckers, expressed relief.

“It’s very frustrating because she’s just coming back and looking great these past few games. But it’s better that it’s a minor setback,” Bueckers said on Tuesday.

Azzi Fudd has faced multiple knee injuries in her career, including ACL and MCL tears in high school and another ACL tear last season, which limited her to just two games. Since returning to the court on Nov. 20, she has appeared in five games this season.

Initially, Fudd struggled with her shot, scoring only seven points across her first two games. However, in her last three outings, she’s averaged 14.3 points per game on 63% shooting, reminding everyone of the talent that made her the nation’s No. 1 recruit and a potential WNBA lottery pick.

After Thursday’s game against Notre Dame, UConn will face Georgetown on Sunday, Dec. 15. Fudd’s return could happen as early as Dec. 17 when UConn takes on No. 18 Iowa State.
