The No.17 North Carolina Tar Heels were able to go on the road in Atlantic Coast Conference action on Sunday with a 69-60 victory over the Miami Hurricanes. The team was led by Maria Gadkeng scoring 21 points on 11 shot attempts.
The Tar Heels (13-2, 1-1 ACC) were able to take advantage mostly on the defensive side of the court to pick up their 13th win of the year. The Hurricanes (11-2, 1-1) were able to do a good job on the glass but they were not able to get much consistently going on the offensive side of the game.

The Tar Heels had a rough game on the offensive side of things throughout the 40 minutes as the team shot 27-of-69 (39.1%) overall, 6-of-29 (20.7%) from beyond the arc and 9-of-14 (64.3%) from the charity stripe. They were able to grab 39 total rebounds (14 offensive, 25 defensive) and did well defensively with 10 steals and three blocks.
The offense had 13 fast break points as well as scoring 40 points in the paint and that was a big reason why they recorded 18 assists to only four turnovers. Their ability to be careful with the basketball was a major factor for the Tar Heels to win this game. Maria Gakdeng ended the night with a game-high 21 points and 12 rebounds.
On the other hand, the Miami Hurricanes had a good offensive showing as the team finished 23-of-57 (40.4%) from the floor, 7-of-25 (28.0%) from the 3-point line and 7-of-13 (53.8%) from the free throw line. The rebounding figures were very similar as the Canes had 40 total rebounds (12 offensive, 28 defensive) but their defense only had three steals and did not record a block.
The offense had 13 assists but turned the ball over 15 times. However, the Hurricanes struggled with just four fast break points and 20 points in the paint. Miami held the lead by a single point but never had more than that.
