Bill Self made history on November 12 following Kansas' game against Michigan State, marking a significant milestone in his career.
The top-ranked Jayhawks secured a 77-69 victory over the Spartans at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, with Hunter Dickinson leading the charge. Dickinson recorded a double-double with 28 points and 12 rebounds in 35 minutes.
Kansas also delivered a formidable defensive performance, holding Michigan State to just 35% shooting from the field and a mere 12% from beyond the arc.
With this win, Bill Self surpassed Phog Allen to become the all-time winningest coach in Kansas program history with 591 victories. Although Self downplayed the achievement post-game, the men's basketball social media account made sure to highlight the milestone.
"The most history. The best tradition. The Winningest Coach," the post read.
Ochai Agbaji, now an NBA player with the Toronto Raptors and a former Kansas star who won the NCAA title in 2022, reacted to the post on November 13, using just one word to describe his former head coach's achievement.
"Legendary," Ogbaji said.

Bill Self's time as Kansas head coach, expectations this year
Bill Self holds a 591-143 record in his 22nd season with the Kansas Jayhawks. He has built a legacy that will endure long after he retires, with two NCAA championships (2008 and 2022) and 20 NCAA Tournament appearances (21 if the 2020 edition hadn't been canceled due to COVID-19).
Last season, Kansas finished with a 23-11 record, falling in the second round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament. This season, the Jayhawks appear to be a renewed and improved team.
They have started strong, winning their first three games against Howard, No. 9 North Carolina, and Michigan State, with a combined winning margin of 43 points. They'll aim to continue their streak when they host Oakland at the Allen Fieldhouse on November 16 at 5 p.m. ET.
