Dan Hurley-led UConn Huskies became the eighth team in history to win back-to-back championships last season. With the upcoming 2024-25 campaign, the Huskies are one of the favorites to win the title again. They would be the first team since the UCLA Bruins in the 1960s and '70s to achieve a three-peat.

However, Hurley and the Huskies will face stiff competition from Alabama and Kansas who have made some major additions to their roster this offseason. When asked if he feels pressure to win again during an interview with News 8's Dennis House for "This Week in Connecticut," Dan Hurley's wife Andrea jumped in to answer (from 6:19):

"oh hell no! Do you?"

Coach Hurley, however, offered a different perspective. He explained:

"I feel enormous internal. Just because the accomplishment (is) incredible. When you do have like little pockets of time driving home, song comes on that you remember hearing in Houston when you're out there and it brings you back to that mountain climb to the top. It's (an) incredible feeling.
"But I'm more 80-85 percent of the time just obsessed and grinding on winning it again because you just want to experience that again. It's like a drug that you've got to have. ... I've been over it. I mean, the feeling comes and goes, but I want to do it again."

Dan Hurley to sign a new contract with the UConn Huskies

A weekend earlier, Dan Hurley made national headlines when the Los Angeles Lakers offered him a $70 million deal for their vacant head coach position. After rejecting the offer and deciding to stay in Storrs, Hurley is rumored to receive a new six-year, $50 million contract from UConn. In June 2023, he signed a $32.1 million contract.

This news was accompanied by speculations that coach Hurley used the Lakers as leverage to negotiate a new offer. He dismissed these on "The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz," explaining:

"This wasn't like some pressure tactic to make me the highest-paid college coach. That was already done. I've had a contract in place here for a couple of weeks. And the final part, in terms of salary, has been done for a while.
"There are some other parts, like NIL and staff salary and some different things, that I want adjusted and I'm not comfortable with. But the sense of the idea that this was some conspiracy to get me a sweeter deal at UConn is just, it's lazy."
