It has been a whirlwind few weeks for Ohio State Buckeyes commit Sean Stewart, who entered the transfer portal from the Duke Blue Devils a few weeks ago. He was heavily recruited as a high school prospect and was one of the most coveted student-athletes in the portal as well.
Off the court, Stewart has been sharing pictures of himself and his girlfriend Ashtyn Sims on Instagram. The couple recently went to their prom night together and their cozy relationship was on show again when Sims posted pictures on Instagram of herself on vacation.
Stewart commented on his girlfriend's post:
"mine mine mine mine mine mine."
"You should smile 24/7," Stewart wrote.
Sean Stewart shares unique relationship with Ohio State coach
In an interview with "The Dispatch," the former Duke Blue Devils forward revealed how crucial the input from new Ohio State coach Jake Diebler was in his decision to choose the Buckeyes as his next destination.
The first-year coach was an assistant coach last year and the lead recruiter when Stewart was in high school, with the pair forming a unique rapport during the process.
“Me and Diebler picked up our previous vibe from the first time recruiting me,” Sean Stewart said. “He was the lead recruiter when I was in high school. We talked almost every day leading up to my decision day, so to have that call when he called me the first day when I entered the portal, it was exciting to talk to him again."
Stewart also pointed out the full-circle moment between himself and the coach after deciding to pair up with his former lead recruiter.
"He kept reiterating how crazy it was that this came full circle that he recruited me as an assistant coach and now he’s a head coach. It’s a lot of chemistry since the first day he started recruiting me,” Sean Stewart said.
Sean Stewart was extensively recruited by the Georgetown Hoyas and the Cincinnati Bearcats, but he ultimately chose the Ohio State Buckeyes.
In an interview with "Eleven Warriors" the talented forward's father explained to Michael Stewart just how crucial Diebler's input was in his son's decision to commit to the program.
"He laid out a comprehensive plan for how he can help Sean achieve some of his basketball goals," Michael Stewart said. "I think that with the other guys they have on the team, there's an immediate fit. There's a need. And I think Sean can slide in at any capacity and help Ohio State achieve some of their goals."
Sean Stewart is seen as the jewel in Jake Diebler's 2024 recruiting class and it helps massively that the talented forward shares a unique history with the new coach.
