Memphis Tigers land Canadian shooting guard Felipe Patino
Canadian shooting guard Felipe Patino committed to Penny Hardaway's pool of 2025 recruits on Friday through social media, choosing the Tigers over Missouri, Bowling Green, Iona and others.
The immediately translatable skill Patino will bring to the Tigers is his high-efficiency 3-point shooting. He has made 50% of his shots from beyond the arc across the first 12 games for the EFSC Titans while attempting over six 3-pointers per contest.
"He’s your prototypical 3-and-D kind of guy," Eastern Florida coach Thomas Gray said. "Whether you’re going to run him off a stagger or some kind of action to get him a shot, if he’s got a clean look at a 3, it’s going in over 50% of the time."
Patino's decision came a week after the Memphis Tigers extended him an offer. The 6-foot-4 player is the second guard the school has landed yet. Dallas native Daniel Vieira-Tuck committed to the Tigers earlier this year.
Felipe Patino is also a commendable help-side defender, known for making quick, high-IQ decisions.
