Cheli's commitment was a big moment for the program, bringing in a promising young player who could help carry on UConn's legacy of success.

Morgan Cheli hails from Los Altos, California, and played AAU basketball for the Cal Stars under coach Kelly Sopak. In addition to her stellar AAU career, Cheli has excelled on the international stage.
Last year, before Christmas, Cheli faced the challenge of spending the holiday away from her family in California. As UConn took a break for the holiday season, Cheli’s parents and two older brothers traveled to Connecticut to be with her instead of her going back home.
She fondly recalled her first white Christmas in Connecticut, a memory she will cherish. Cheli said:
"My brother has always lived in California, and he was like, ‘I’m out of here.’ Two days was enough. It’s been good to have them here."
Cheli’s family was present for the Huskies’ matchup against Providence, which marked the beginning of an important stretch of Big East games for UConn. The guard has already found her spot on the roster and making big contributions to the wins.
