UConn women's basketball star Paige Bueckers reached a significant milestone as she became the fastest Huskies player to reach 2,000 career points on Sunday. Bueckers was in action as sixth-ranked UConn dismantled visiting Seton Hall 96-36, finishing with 18 points on 6-for-10 shooting and a game-high seven assists.
ESPN's Alexa Philippou celebrated the senior guard's latest milestone on X (formerly Twitter).
"Paige Bueckers becomes the fastest UConn player to reach 2,000 career points, doing it in her 102nd career game. Next-closest Husky is Maya Moore (108 games)," the basketball analyst wrote.
Bueckers reached the mark in 102 games, breaking Maya Moore's 108. She is also the 12th UConn player to reach a 2000-career milestone.
Geno Auriemma reacts to Paige Bueckers' 2000-career points milestone
UConn coach Geno Auriemma talked about Paige Bueckers reaching 2,000 career points with SYN's Chelsea Sherrod during halftime on Sunday.
"I know what she has been through, how many times she has been dealt with a bad hand, and she had a lot of adversity during her whole college career, starting with COVID her freshman year," the coach said.
"I know the points are a source of accomplishment for her. But I think us winning and us moving on and us having a magical year are probably more important to her than anything else."
Bueckers reached the milestone with a pull-up jumper in the second quarter. However, her journey to the remarkable milestone has been anything but smooth as she has missed playing time in her career due to a tibial plateau fracture, a torn ACL and most recently a knee sprain.
Sunday's game saw the No. 1 2025 WNBA draft prospect breaking the pace of UConn's all-time leading scorer Maya Moore, which made the achievement extra special for Bueckers, who is a big fan of the WNBA star.
"It’s kind of crazy to hear," Bueckers said, per Fox Sports. "But then, like, I’m talking to coach on Friday, and Maya (has) got 3,000 (3,036 — most in UConn women's history) points. So, you look everywhere around you here and humble yourself.
"So, obviously, I’m grateful, extremely blessed, and it’s kind of surreal to think about all of the people that have passed through here and my journey and how I’ve come to be where I am. And I guess that’s a pretty cool feat."
Up next, UConn hosts Villanova on Wednesday as Bueckers continues her attempt to clinch her first national championship in her final season with the Huskies.
