UConn's Paige Bueckers expressed enthusiasm over the NCAA's announcement that revenue sharing will be implemented for the women's basketball tournament. On Wednesday, the NCAA announced that schools that make the women's tournament will receive a financial payout, similar to the men's tournament.

In the postgame press conference after UConn's victory over St. John's on Wednesday, Bueckers, who returned from an injury that sidelined her for two games, was asked about the revenue sharing news.

"I think that's huge," Paige Bueckers said. "Just for women's hoop, continuing to capitalize on what we've brought to the sport and what we do for just sport in general and entertainment and just be a part of that, it's grateful."
"I think it continues to grow as the sport grows, so just stepping in the right direction."

Starting this season, teams that make the NCAA women's tournament will receive monetary payouts from a new $15 million fund .This will be sourced from the media rights deal with an increase to $25 million by 2028.

UConn coach Geno Auriemma also praised the move.

"It's great for school, it's great for the future of the sport. It's another step in the right direction based on what happened in the last couple of years," Auriemma said postgame. "It's a statement that they made today about where women's basketball fits into the big picture of college athletics."

Paige Bueckers approaches historical mark, nears 2,000 career points

Paige Bueckers, one of the most popular and dominant players in women's college basketball, is inching closer to a significant career milestone. With an average of 19.4 points per game this season, the senior guard is just six points away from reaching the 2,000 career point mark.

Bueckers entered 2024-25 with 1,683 points, having touched the 1,000 points milestone last season. In 16 games this campaign, she has scored 311 points, putting her at 1,994 career points.

In the Wednesday game against St. John's at Carnesecca Arena, Bueckers added 12 points to her tally. She is expected to eclipse the 2,000-point plateau in the Huskies' next game on Sunday at home against Seton Hall.

However, Paige Bueckers will still not break into the top 10 in UConn history for most points scored.

Maya Moore (3,036 points) and Breanna Stewart (2,676 points) hold the top two spots on the Huskies' all-time scoring list. Kara Wolters, who played for Connecticut from 1993 to 1997, sits in the 10th spot with 2,141 points.

If Bueckers continues at her current pace, she could finish her career ranked within the top 5 scorers in Husky history.
