Paige Bueckers has high expectations on her as she is projected to be one of the top picks of the 2025 WNBA draft. One basketball analyst sees the benefits that one particular team would gain from selecting her.
On "The Robin Lundberg Show" on YouTube on Saturday, Lundberg reacted to a report about those around the WNBA believing Bueckers will refuse to play for the Dallas Wings if they choose to draft her with the No. 1 pick.
Lundberg doesn't believe Bueckers will carry out that course of action. Instead, he looks at how much attention the UConn star would get if she did.
"Paige is a media darling," Lundberg said. "People love her. She seems like a great young woman. Obviously, like I said, is a terrific player and a star, but one would think there would be a degree of backlash for pulling a move like that.
"I guess it just depends on who it is, because other players certainly would. Other players, you would never hear the end of it if that were happening."
Paige Bueckers, UConn see ranking in new AP Top 25 poll
The WNBA draft is just months away, but until then, Paige Bueckers continues to perform at a high level for the Huskies.
UConn has been on a roll with a five-game winning streak, coming off of victories over Xavier and Georgetown last week. Their momentum was recognized in the latest rankings of the AP Top 25 on Monday, with the Huskies (15-2) moving up one spot to sixth. Teams above them include USC and LSU; the ones below them are Texas and Maryland.
The Huskies are beating opponents by 27.2 points per game as their defense holds teams to 51.7 ppg on 35.6% shooting, including 31.7% from beyond the arc. Bueckers leads the way with 19.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists per contest.
